Extensions

Case Study - Darby Road, Beccles

When we first walked into this 1970's bungalow it was obvious it was in need of a re-plan internally. It's a great plot with a very large rear garden, but it has been extended multiple times over various decades, making it feel very awkward to navigate. The family were looking to add to the 2 1/2 bedrooms, (2 doubles with a small nursery off the master) extending at the rear to create larger living spaces.

Keeping internal works to a minimum, we have re-planned the existing bungalow to create an ample 4 bedroom family home with a 47m contemporary extension at the rear. The building work has been phased so that it can be completed with minimal disruption to the family until it gets knocked through at the final stage. A fully operational kitchen and family bathroom will be available for the entire duration of the build.

We were apprehensive that the planning authority would see the design of the extension as too unconventional but were refreshed when they made reference in their approval that; "this is a simple but carefully thought through approach and the materials are fully specified as a necessity where a very specific appearance is being aimed at. The proposal is higher quality than that usually offered in the locality and has much to recommend it."
